There has been a lot of talk buzzing around about the new, bigger and better 27” OLED TV that is to be released by Sony at the CES 2010. This new addition to the Sony television line will be one of its biggest breakthroughs ever as it will be sporting the new OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, one which is said to be even better than the LCD technology. The Sony OLED TV KDL-ZX is expected to be seen at the Consumer Electronics Show 2010 at Las Vegas.
What can you expect?
There are a myriad of advantages which OLED displays hold against their predecessors. One of the most outstanding advantages of the OLED technology is its independence from a backlight. The most common traditional LCD displays need a backlight in order to function. This sets apart OLED displays from the traditional LCD displays. OLED displays do not require backlights for operational purposes, thus it requires less power to operate. Also, OLED displays are supposed to be manufactured more efficiently than LCD and plasma displays, thus more OLED displays can be reproduced by manufacturers. But the most promiscuous and obvious advantage of the OLED technology is its ability to produce exponentially clearer and crisper images. Compared to the common LCD display, OLED displays produce much more detailed images and they do this for less the power than an LCD display.
Another thing that you can expect from the up-and-coming 27” OLED TV from Sony is the hefty price tag. Rumors have it that Sony is supposed to release the new OLED TV at a price of not less than $2,000. This will be something that consumers will definitely consider once the product is released in the market. This has been the same predicament Sony encountered when it released a smaller OLED TV to the market. Sony has already released the 11” model of the OLED TV for mass production and it has been competing in the market for two years now. This version of the OLED TV is the Sony XEL-1 and the public has shied away from this product because of its heavy price tag. Pegged at $2,500, this 11” version is deemed too small and too overpriced for most people, thus the lower marketability. If you truly want a top-of-the-line television which can produce the sharpest and clearest of images, then this new line (Sony OLED KDL-ZX) from Sony is the one for you. But if you do decide to have it, best have your pockets and bank accounts prepared.
